Austria

Austria legalised same-sex marriage in 2019 following a Constitutional Court ruling, making it one of the more progressive countries in Central Europe. Vienna has a well-established LGBTQI+ scene and hosts one of the region's most colourful Pride events. Anti-discrimination protections cover employment and access to goods and services.

Outside Vienna, attitudes are generally accepting in urban areas but more conservative in rural Tyrol and Salzburg. Overall Austria is a welcoming destination for LGBTQI+ travellers.
