BeefDip Bear Week is one of the biggest bear gatherings in the world and the highlight of Puerto Vallarta's winter season. Every January, thousands of bears, cubs, otters and admirers from the US, Canada, Mexico and beyond descend on the Zona Romántica for a week of pool parties, rooftop sunsets, dance nights and beach days. What began as a small get-together has grown into a week that fills the neighbourhood's gay hotels and bars. The 2027 edition runs from Sunday 24 to Sunday 31 January.
The week follows a daily rhythm: pool and beach parties by day, sunset gatherings on the rooftops, and dance parties at night. CC Slaughters, the Zona Romántica's best-known gay club, is the official home of BeefDip's dance parties, while the host hotels run the daytime pool events. Past editions have included a welcome party on the Blue Chairs rooftop, a foam pool party and the Red Ball, BeefDip's signature night. Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) has direct flights from many US and Canadian cities, with extra routes in winter. The airport is about 20–30 minutes by taxi or rideshare from the Zona Romántica. Once you're there, almost everything is walkable: the host hotels, bars and beach are a few blocks apart.
The Zona Romántica, also called Old Town, is the heart of gay Puerto Vallarta and one of the most relaxed LGBTQ+ neighbourhoods in Latin America. The gay section of Los Muertos Beach, in front of Blue Chairs, is the daytime meeting point, and the streets around Olas Altas and Lázaro Cárdenas are lined with bars, cafés and clubs. During BeefDip the whole area is effectively bear territory, with venues running their own events alongside the official programme.
Late January is the heart of Puerto Vallarta's dry season, with sunny days around 27°C, warm evenings and very little rain. Book early: the host hotels, including the Hotel Delfin and Blue Chairs, fill months ahead, and rooms across the Zona Romántica get scarce. Staying within walking distance of Los Muertos Beach keeps you close to the action.
