Aspen Gay Ski Week is where LGBTQ+ ski weeks began. Since 1977 it has brought LGBTQ+ skiers to Aspen every January for a week on the mountain and a packed après and party programme. The 2027 edition runs from Sunday 17 to Sunday 24 January and marks its 50th anniversary, so expect a bigger programme and more visitors than usual.
Daytime is about the skiing, with group ski-downs, meet-ups on the mountain and a famously flamboyant downhill costume race. Aspen's four mountains are covered by one lift pass, so there's terrain for every level, from Buttermilk's gentle groomers to the steeps of Highland Bowl.
After the lifts close, the week moves to après parties, dinners and big night-time events, from mountain-top gatherings to themed dance parties. Passes cover the main events, and individual tickets are usually available for many parties.
Aspen Gay Ski Week is run by AspenOUT, and the money it raises supports LGBTQ+ programmes in the Roaring Fork Valley. Many attendees come back year after year, which gives the week a strong reunion feel.
Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) is minutes from town; the alternatives are flying into Denver and driving (about 4 hours) or flying into Eagle County. Aspen hotels fill quickly for the 50th anniversary, so book as early as you can. Snowmass Village, about 20 minutes away by free bus, is a good-value alternative.
Aspen Gay Ski Week 2027 runs 17–24 January and is the 50th anniversary edition, which the organisers call the Golden Jubilee. Passes, hotels and the schedule are at gayskiweek.com.
