The Parade
Cape Town Pride is the largest Pride event in Africa — a vibrant celebration that marches through the streets of the De Waterkant neighbourhood and Green Point, reflecting both the extraordinary achievements of LGBTQ+ rights in South Africa (the first African country with same-sex marriage) and the ongoing challenges facing the community.
The Festival
Beyond the parade, Cape Town Pride features outdoor concerts, community events, and parties across the city's gay-friendly venues in De Waterkant. The festival takes place in late February when Cape Town's summer is at its peak — warm, sunny days and spectacular mountain and ocean scenery provide an extraordinary backdrop.
Safety Note
While Cape Town and its LGBTQ+ venues are welcoming and safe, visitors should exercise standard urban safety precautions. Stay aware of your surroundings, use reputable transport, and avoid displaying valuables in unfamiliar areas.
