Auckland Pride is New Zealand's biggest celebration of rainbow communities: a month-long festival that runs across Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland every February. Instead of a single weekend, it's a full programme of events, with theatre, cabaret, visual art, film, talks, sports, parties and community gatherings spread across the city and organised by artists, venues and community groups. The 2026 festival ran from 1 to 28 February.
One of the festival's best-loved days is the Big Gay Out, a free outdoor community fair at Coyle Park in Point Chevalier, held in 2026 on Sunday 15 February. Expect stalls, live performances, food trucks and thousands of people picnicking by the water. It's relaxed, family-friendly and one of the biggest single rainbow gatherings in the country.
The Auckland Rainbow Parade on Ponsonby Road, held on Saturday 21 February in 2026, is one of the most visible moments of the month: an evening parade through one of the city's main rainbow neighbourhoods. It's run separately from the Auckland Pride Festival but takes place during it, and many visitors plan their trip around both.
Throughout February, venues across Auckland host Pride programming. Karangahape Road (K Road) is the centre of the city's rainbow nightlife, while Ponsonby, Grey Lynn and the central city fill up with exhibitions, shows and parties. The festival's online programme is the best way to plan, since many events are small, ticketed and sell out.
February is high summer in Auckland: warm, long days, ideal for beaches and island trips between festival events. Fly into Auckland Airport (AKL), about 30–45 minutes from the city centre. Staying in the CBD, on K Road or in Ponsonby puts you close to most of the action. Summer is peak season, so book early.
Auckland Pride Festival 2026 ran throughout February. Highlights included the Big Gay Out at Coyle Park, Point Chevalier, on Sunday 15 February, and the Auckland Rainbow Parade on Ponsonby Road on Saturday 21 February, which is run separately from the festival.
